Exam Preparation

A Guide to EC-Council Certification Exams

Candidates often have many questions about exam preparation and the learning material. Through the following FAQs, let us walk you through some common queries to make the entire process simple and easy as you prepare for the exam.

Questions

Where can a candidate register for the exam?
The candidate can register for the exam at https://www.eccexam.com/
What are the steps to register for the exam?
Upon successful registration, the candidate will receive an account activation link via email. An active exam voucher is necessary to register for the exam. The registration guide will be sent to candidates along with their exam vouchers.
What is the role of a "proctor" during the exam?
Proctors are required for all EC-Council exams. These proctors are trained representatives authorized by EC-Council to help administer tests and report any incidents or events recorded during test sessions. The proctors are governed by the proctor agreement and are committed to ensuring that the test experience is fair and valid for all test takers.

Note:

  • Candidates cannot attempt the test without a proctor.
  • The proctor has to be able to view the exam and the candidate while the candidate completes the test, or else the exam result will not be valid, and the test will have to be rescheduled.
  • Feedback from the proctor will be considered for all contested exam results.
Will the exams change or be updated over time? Will a candidate be notified of updates to an exam?
If the proposed content includes new objectives that cover new skills or knowledge that subject-matter experts believe is necessary to demonstrate competence, a new exam blueprint will be released to the test takers. This may or may not lead to the release of a new exam. The exam details page is updated in this case. Such changes may occasionally happen to ensure the exam is current and accurate at all times—but minor updates will not be announced. EC-Council reserves the right to update content for any reason at any time to maintain the validity and relevance of its certifications.
Will the changes in exam content be updated in the learning material?
Although EC-Council attempts to align training and exam availability, the associated training materials may or may not be revised. Depending on the scope of changes introduced in the exams, these updates may or may not align when incorporated into the exam.

Note:EC-Council does not review study materials developed by third parties and is not responsible for their content or ensuring that they are updated to reflect product updates. If you have questions or comments about exam preparation materials developed by third parties, please contact the publishers directly.

Can the exam material include content not covered in the training or learning material?
Yes, the exam material can include content that may not be covered in official training or courseware. EC-Council's official courseware and training material are developed independently of exam content because the exams are intended to assess relevant skills and knowledge, not the effectiveness of training materials. Candidates are encouraged to refer to the exam blueprints and exam objectives before registering for an exam.
Where can a candidate take EC-Council exams?
All EC-Council exams are available at the ECC Exam Centre.
What terms is a candidate made to accept before taking a test?
A candidate must agree to the terms of the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Certification Agreement before taking a test. These agreements require candidates to keep information related to exam content confidential. Requiring the acceptance of the agreements helps protect the security of EC-Council certification exams and the integrity of the EC-Council certification program by legally discouraging piracy and/or unauthorized use of exam content. If an individual is caught violating the agreements, the candidate will be subject to action from EC-Council. If a candidate took training at an Accredited Training Centre but wants to take an exam in another country. Can they take their exams remotely? Is that possible?
All EC-Council exams can be proctored virtually. Please write to [email protected] if you would like to upgrade your exam voucher code.

Note:

a. Remotely proctored exams carry unique voucher codes. Vouchers for physical testing centers cannot be used to register for remotely proctored exams.
b. The registration guidelines and instructions for attempting a remotely proctored exam may vary from those of a physical test center. Candidates should read the instructions sent to them before booking their remotely proctored exams.
c. You may need to upgrade your voucher for a $100 fee for remote proctoring services.
Can a candidate upgrade their exam voucher to another mode of delivery?
Yes, they can send their request to [email protected] if they hold an existing unused EC-Council exam voucher and wish to upgrade to another mode of delivery. For example, a Pearson VUE voucher can be upgraded to an ECC Exam Centre or a remotely proctored exam voucher.

Note:: Acceptance of such requests are subject to EC-Council's decision depending on the reason for the request. EC-Council reserves the right to deny requests of this nature. Candidates may need to upgrade their vouchers for a $100 fee for our remote proctoring services.

Are "brain Dumps" considered an accepted method to prepare for the test?
"Brain dump" providers violate EC-Council's intellectual property rights and non-disclosure agreements. Usage of any material, including websites that publish "brain dumps" obtained fraudulently, is considered a violation of ethics. If EC-Council learns that a candidate used a "brain dump" site to prepare for an exam, this candidate will be permanently banned from taking any future EC-Council certification exams. In addition, test scores and certifications, if applicable, may be revoked. These actions may be taken even if the candidate did not intend to defraud the EC-Council Certification Program.

If you think you have discovered a "brain dump" site with EC-Council content, please send an email to [email protected].

What is proxy testing, and what are its consequences?
Proxy testing occurs when someone takes an exam for another candidate. In other words, the candidate has passed an exam without taking it. Engaging in proxy testing as either the test taker or the person who hired the test taker is considered a violation of ethics. If EC-Councils learns that a candidate used proxy testing or any similar service for an exam, this candidate will be permanently banned from taking any future EC-Council Certification exams. In addition, test scores and certifications, if applicable, may be revoked. These actions may be taken even if the candidate did not intend to defraud the EC-Council Certification Program.

If you have discovered a proxy testing site that offers fraudulent services for any of EC-Council's certification programs, please send an email to [email protected].

Can a candidate request a refund if they fail the test?
No. Refund requests are not accepted if one fails to pass the test.
